Today's Quote

Through meditation, we can contact the Light and Sound within. Then, we can travel on the inner current through the higher regions until it reaches the Source, God. Like a drop of water returns to the ocean, so does our soul return to the Ocean of God."

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj

News Briefs from Naperville, December 12-13, 2009

On Saturday, December 12th, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj held a question and answer session at the Science of Spirituality Meditation Center. After welcoming all who had come from near and far, the spiritual Master graciously offered to answer any spiritually inclined questions from the audience.

One woman asked for guidance to help young children understand their spiritual experiences during meditation. The spiritual Master responded that children should be lovingly taught that meditation is a process of tuning our attention away from the world and focusing it on God within. During this process of “going within,” we strive to still our body and mind which causes our sensory currents to move toward the seat of our soul– the third eye. This upward movement of our sensory currents can sometimes give us the sensation of “leaving our body,” when in truth our soul is tuning within into the inner spiritual realms.

A young father in the audience asked the spiritual Master to elaborate on the role of a father’s love. The spiritual Master emphasized the importance of a father’s love in the healthy upbringing of children. Even though a lot is said and written about a mother’s love for their children, a father’s love is just as important, he said. Although times are changing, it is still not uncommon for many fathers to be the breadwinners of their families and hence they may not get to spend as much time with their children as the mothers. However, said the spiritual Master, spending quality time makes up for the shorter duration of time that working parents may have with their children.
The last question of the evening asked whether it is advisable for seekers on the path to ask fellow seekers for advice and counsel on meditation techniques and experiences. The spiritual Master emphasized that the spiritual journey is one that we must all experience for ourselves. Meditation is a practice that teaches us to rely on ourselves and on the Lord. As such, we should not rely on others to perfect our meditation techniques. Diligent practice and relying on our own efforts will invoke the grace of the Lord.

Following this series of questions and answers, the spiritual Master put the audience into meditation. Later in the evening, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj joined the sangat for an informal meet and greet session, where many birthdays and anniversaries were also celebrated.

Sunday, December 13, 2009

“On Sunday, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj delivered a poignant discourse at the Wyndham Lisle hotel in Lisle, Illinois to mark this season of celebration and cheer,” remarked an attendee. At this time of year, said the spiritual Master, we tend to reflect upon the year gone by, assess where we are in our lives and where we want to be next year. As we reflect upon our experiences, he said, it is important to remember one of the most important traits that is spoken of in all traditions and faiths – forgiveness.

The spiritual Master beautifully explained that it is important for us to forget the pain that has been inflicted upon us in order to forgive. Replaying the incident that caused us pain only brings us more pain, he said. Forgetting the past is the first step toward forgiving. When we forgive others for their shortcomings, he stated, we begin to overcome our own ego, which gives us peace of mind and helps us in our meditations. It is also important, he explained, that we extend this gift of forgiveness to ourselves. It is human to make mistakes, said the spiritual Master. Recalling the timeless advice of Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj, the spiritual Master emphasized that we must “Repent, Pray and Do No More” so that our shortcomings do not become bad habits.

In all aspects of our lives, concluded the spiritual Master, we must strive to remember our true goal: to know ourselves, to know God and to find our way back Home. Regular meditations, living an ethical life of love, compassion, nonviolence, humility, truthfulness, selfless service and being in the company of other seekers of truth will help us remain focused and get us to our goal.

Following this beautiful talk, the spiritual Master put the audience into meditation.

“Later that evening,” stated an attendee, “the spiritual Master met with several people and then concluded the evening by offering loving words of wisdom to stay warm during the cold winter days.”
